How BACtrack used Intentwise to understand its profitability on an item level

BACtrack used to struggle to download 6+ reports from Amazon every day. Then Intentwise Analytics Cloud automated the process.

How Intentwise helped:

  • Pulled in data from BACtrack’s 6+ different accounts—its vendor account, seller account, vendor advertising account, seller advertising account, vendor DSP account, seller DSP account—into a single view.
  • Provided ASIN-level profitability numbers for 36 products that allowed BACtrack to make critical pricing and marketing decisions relevant to each product.

The challenge

BACtrack, a leading brand of personal breathalyzers, was used to receiving a barrage of data from Amazon. The company operates both Vendor Central and Seller Central accounts, including separate advertising accounts for each.

The end result: It needed to keep track of double the usual number of Amazon reports.

Every single day, the company was manually downloading 6 different reports from 6 different accounts—marketing reports, business reports, inventory metrics, and more—in order to create an item-level profitability view for its products.

Seems simple? Not really.

Initially, the BACtrack marketing team tried to connect these disparate data sets together themselves. They used a mix of Google Sheets and other templates, but they struggled to get it right.

BACtrack cycled through different solutions: It hired contractors. It hired data analysts. It hired other software providers. But the resources needed just to download and join these reports every day was immense. “We never could quite get it exactly how we wanted,” said Shawn Casey, the VP of Marketing at BACtrack.

The solution

When BACtrack switched to Intentwise, accessing and visualizing its data became easy. Intentwise Analytics Cloud automatically downloaded, enriched, and organized the data across all of the BACtrack accounts, placing it all into a single view.

With Intentwise, “I can log in each morning and I can see my numbers, and I don’t have to worry about it,” Casey said. He could focus his energy away from downloading data and toward making big-picture marketing decisions based on that data.

Prior to Intentwise, for instance, BACtrack only had a fuzzy portrait of its profitability numbers. It knew its profits on an account level, but it couldn’t quickly see how profitable specific products were. Intentwise Analytics Cloud, however, was able to provide BACtrack with profitability numbers on an ASIN level for all of its products.

Those accessible profit statistics allowed BACtrack to make informed decisions about which products to promote, how much ad money to spend on each ASIN, how to set list prices, and so much more.

“After seeing the incredible data that we’re getting, we see there’s a lot of opportunity on the operations side, on inventory management,” Casey said. “We have plans to really expand access to this.”
